Bonbon The Tiglet

Simple Easy Crochet Tiger Pattern

Bonbon The Tiglet is a beginner friendly crochet pattern created for the 2022 Chinese Lunar New Year. This little Tiglet will be part of our Chinese Zodiac Series which is also 'purr-fect' for any friends or families born in the year of the Tiger.


Materials

  • Milk cotton yarn 4-ply: Color A - Yellow | Color B - Dark Brown | Color C - White
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook
  • 10 mm round safety eyes
  • 8 mm safety nose
  • Black embroidery thread
  • Toy stuffing (fiberfill)
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissor

Abbreviations (U.S Term)

  • rnd = round
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase
  • dec = decrease
  • st / sts = stitch / stitches
  • sl st = slip stitch

Finished Size

  • Approximately 4" (10 cm) tall

Let's Get Started

HEAD & BODY

(In yellow yarn (Color A))

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. [6]
Rnd 2: Inc in all 6 st. [12]
Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st ) x 6. [18]
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) x 6. [24]
Rnd 5: Sc in all 24 st. [24]
Rnd 6: (Sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) x 6. [30]
Rnd 7: (Sc in next 4 st, inc in next st) x 6. [36]
Rnd 8: (Sc in next 5 st, inc in next st) x 6. [42]
Rnd 9: (Sc in next 6 st, inc in next st) x 6. [48]
Rnd 10-26: Sc in all 48 st. [48]
Rnd 27: (Sc in next 6 st, dec) x 6. [42]
Rnd 28: (Sc in next 5 st, dec) x 6. [36]

Attach safety eyes between rnd 12 and 13, leaving 8 sts (7 holes) between them.

Attach safety nose in between the eyes rnd 15 and 16.

Start stuffing the head and body with fiberfill.

Rnd 29: (Sc in next 4 st, dec) x 6. [30]
Rnd 30: (Sc in next 3 st, dec) x 6. [24]
Rnd 31: (Sc in next 2 st, dec) x 6. [18]
Rnd 32: (Sc in next st, dec) x 6. [12]
Rnd 33: (Dec) x 6. [6]

Sl st in next st and fasten off. Leave a long yarn tail.

Thread the yarn tail through a needle and weave the needle through the front loop of each of the 6 st. Pull the yarn tail gently to close the hole. Insert the needle through the middle of the hole and pull through the head.

SNOUT x 2

(In white yarn (Color C))

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. [6]
Rnd 2: Inc in all 6 st. [12]
Rnd 3: Sc in all 12 st. [24]

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

EAR x 2

(In yellow yarn (Color A))

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. [6]
Rnd 2: Inc in all 6 st. [12]
Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st ) x 6. [18]
Rnd 4-6: Sc in all 18 st. [18]

Rnd 7: Flatten the ear and sc across both sides of the ear in each of the next 9 st to close the opening.

Fasten off and leave a long yarn tail for sewing.

HAND & LEG x 4

(In yellow yarn (Color A))

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. [6]
Rnd 2: Inc in all 6 st. [12]
Rnd 3-5: Sc in all 12 st. [12]

Rnd 6: Flatten the leg/hand and sc across both sides of the leg/hand in each of the next  6 st to close the opening.

Fasten off and leave a long yarn tail for sewing.

TAIL

Start with brown yarn (Color B).

Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. [6]
Rnd 2: (Sc in next st, inc in next st ) x 3. [9]
Rnd 3-6: Sc in all 9 st. [9]

Change to yellow yarn (Color A).

Rnd 7-22: Sc in all 9 st. [9]

Rnd 23: Flatten the tail and sc across both sides of the tail in each of the next 4 st to close the opening.

Fasten off. Leave long yarn tail for sewing.

ASSEMBLY
  1. Sew the ears to the top of the head.
  2. Sew the stout to the front center of the face below the nose and embroider the center with black embroidery thread vertically from the nose.
  3. Sew the hands to the side of the body.
  4. Sew the legs to the bottom of the body.
  5. Sew the tail to the center on the back of the body.
  6. Using dark brown yarn, embroider stripes on the top of the head and the side of the face.
There is no specific position to sew on the parts. You may position them the way you like it.
